I've been meaning to write about the Dum Dum Girls for a while now. They've / she's been around since, I dunno, late summer and already is making internet headway on the myspace top-friends bread crumb trail. As Nate William's solo bedroom project Wavves has gained indie label and internet success, Dum Dum Girls is, in similar start-up fashion, the solo project of one girl with remarkable talent. Dee Dee, a librarian from LA, has the vocal quality and song writing sense to make music magic. I see big big tings for her, especially with Hozac, Black Dogs, Victim of Time (...etc) in support. Not to mention the direction of her sound is packed with extremely catchy charming vocal melodies supported by this slight power twee noise-pop rhythm. Think the haunting aura of black tambourine combined with the angelic allure of Tracy Tracy from the Primitives (but better).
I really hope the dum dum girls continues to produce. With this much of a running star, she's one artist to keep in your peripheral listening vision. I don't want to jump the gun, but this band is on the trail of history making genre influencing shit people. Get on it.

Respectful use of pronouns and punctuation and a tremendous double-negative... I applaud that comment. Seriously though, how deep should I read into that sentence?

Ok. That's been the topic of conversation for a while. Where is music going? Where is it coming from? There's the obvious nature of bands pulling directly from the same bands. Fuck myspace and the 'influences / sounds like section'. Although I'm for and against it. On one hand it provides structure and the emotional a priori sound of novelty. But on the other it isn't very progressive and it can get boring. Yet, after the circular thought trying to conceive some conclusion -- I always arrive to the grounds that people making music is just cool. It isn't a social privilege to do so. It doesn't mean that they have some higher sense of knowledge and passion. They're just putting one foot in front of the other, regardless of their intended destination (profit, expression, appreciation). I can't judge one person's creative productivity. In the grand scheme of things I'm really optimistic about it - the more people creating, the better my world will be. Even if it is clouded by weird bedroom indie pop. Music ... music just rules. The dum dum girls are just another band. I like their sound. Even if they sound just like ____ and ____ and ____................... yeah.
The world is not going to end on 2012. It's ending right now.
