MEXICAN DAVE // AN INTERVIEW

Dave is a dear friend of mine. He helps me out with my spanish and teaches me about Mexican food and alcohol. He like butts and plays in several bands, one of the being a personal Siltbreeze favorite, Ratas del Vaticano - scuzzy, primitive, and sinister punk from Monterrey, Mexico. WMFU posted a couple songs to download here. All in all, I wanted to start framing my network of artists, musicians and regular asses - you know who you are, and your turn will be up. So I hope you enjoy my fabulous interviewing magic because you are witnessing a first here. Next up on the list from category regular assness is my 75 yr old grandma, Nancy Marie Piston Buchman. She's been in the hospital for over a month with a really gross infection in her leg. So I'm sure asking her probing questions, getting some dirt on my Mom and literally wiping her ass will make her feel extremely loved. Her favorite musicians are Neil Diamond and Johnny Cash. WHERE / HOW DID YOU GROW UP AND WHAT WERE YOUR FIRST EXPERIENCES LIKE WITH MUSIC?
I grow up in Guadalupe Nuevo Leon, in a poor neighborhood where i live now,, i just to spend all my afternoond playing soccer with my friends, and watching cartoons and soap operas... i like the music my mother listened to, like cumbias of los tigres dle norte and bronco and mexican sixtis rock(pop bands like rockin devils ,,but when i was like 10, an uncle was taking a shower and listening the unppluged of nirvana, i fell in love with come as you are, and it was my first encounter with "rock" ah-ha!

DID YOU LEARNED ENGLISH FROM AMERICAN MUSIC? WHAT DID YOU LISTEN TO? ... IF I WANTED TO LEARN SPANISH, WHAT WOULD I LISTEN TO?
I learned english listening to music in english, watching stupid american comedy movies, and sometimes i have to practice with my gringos amigos. When i was teenager i used to listen to nirvana, pixies, sonic youth and alternative or indie shit like that, then i discovered punk rock and so on and on. Like everybody else. Here in monterrey a loto f people is bilingual cause we are so closet o texas, so i guess its not so different . If you want to know spanish you should listen Rock Urbano Music, is like rock and roll for "los chavos" or "la banda" that is the the youth or people who dont give a shit about trends, they just listen the same kind of cheesy rock and roll, stuck in the year 87 or something, some bands like, El tri or three souls in my mind, charly montanna are my favorites, and of course you can listen to Ratas del vaticano, and learn from their intelectual lyrics,, lol. ;).

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING? WHAT DO YOU 'WANT' TO DO FOR A LIVING?
In my title says I am a translator, and I worked 3 years in that business. Now I work in a callcenter, only to save money,, but I have this net label with other friends. Nenerecords.net …..also I record bands that I like but they only pay for my beer when I have luck., they bands I like always are cheapbastards.

IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD IT BE?
I would love to live in rio de jaineiro, cause brazilians worship the ass,, so do I.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO TJ?
Yeah,, totally RAD,, haha but its like any street in monterrey, full of bars and hookers, nothing new to me.. I been in Tijuana a whole day with my friend Joaquin (ratasdelvaticano) drinkin since morning and crossing the border all drunk to see the spits, but we were too drunk to care about it, so we missed them, and other day we were hangin around in vynil stores and saying hi to hooker.s I couldnt see the donkey show anyways.

DO YOU FIND YOURSELF WANTING TO SOUND MORE MEXICAN OR AMERICAN WITH YOUR MUSIC?
I don't want to sound neither Mexican or American, I just wanna ROCK!!!! Like the good old bands,, OASIS, NICKELBACK, PINKFLOYD, you know,, GOODSTUFF!!

WHAT BANDS WOULD YOU WANT TO TOUR WITH AND WHERE?
I would like to tour with Livefastdie, the Misfats and Tenacious D and obviously the Spits.

WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON?
I have a new proyect called BAsura Digital, and another called Mocosos, you know is punk for the people who don't want to pay more than 2 dollars for a caguama.,,,, Maybe someday we gonna release a vynil on nene records, only for the third world,,

WHAT BANDS INSPIRED YOU / WHAT BANDS DO YOU HATE?
The bands that inspired me are Three Souls In My Mind, the Kids, Sindrome del Punk,, they my best influences. and shit like that… I don't hate anyone or anything,, hate is for losers, I only want to die people in garage bands that want to sound like the sonics or the mummies, and stupid new "hardcore" , you know, those guys that have dance moves and throw kicks and go to gym,, also the "artsypunk" or "weirdpunk"…those colecionist-geeky-bastards that think they know everything.
